Roy Alvin Greenwood, a beloved member of the Skiatook community and a dedicated family man, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 95.
He was born on November 2, 1929, in Skiatook to William Earl and Florence Elizabeth (Wise) Greenwood. Roy grew up in Skiatook, where he received his education and graduated in 1947. Shortly thereafter, Roy married the love of his life, Nelda Mae Wolverton, on July 26, 1947, in Claremore, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life filled with love and raised their family in Skiatook. Roy's professional journey included co-owning Greenwood Oil alongside his brother Virgil, contributing significantly to the local economy and embodying the spirit of entrepreneurship. In addition to his career, Roy was passionate about his hobbies. He was an enthusiastic Ham Radio Operator who enjoyed staying connected with friends and family around the world. His love for adventure was evident in his fondness for hunting and traveling, allowing him to create lasting memories and experiences. Roy led many canoeing trips to Canada with the local Boy Scouts troop. Roy was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church in Skiatook.
Roy is survived by his son-in-law, John Werner; five grandchildren, Stephen Connor, Joel Arrington, Brian Landers, Daniel Landers, and Jennifer Herington; nine great-grandchildren; two nephews, Ronald Greenwood and Paul Greenwood; and a close friend, Sue Crain.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nelda Greenwood; his daughters, Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Connor, Pamela Sue "Penny" Landers, and Carla Ann Werner; his brother, Virgil Greenwood; and his sister, Maxine Poore. His parents, William Earl and Florence Elizabeth Greenwood, also predeceased him.
As we remember Roy Alvin Greenwood, we celebrate a life that was rich with love, purpose, and community spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
