Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home - Enosburg FallsBARTON - Roy D. Rivers, age 77, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026 at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
He was born in Enosburgh on July 19, 1948 to the late Warren & Marion (Dudley) Rivers.
Roy's life was marked by his unwavering devotion to his family, his love for the great outdoors, and his dedication to his work as a carpenter. After serving honorably in the United States Army, Roy carried the values of service and commitment into his daily life. For many years, he worked diligently honing his skills as a carpenter and taking great pride in his craft. He also served as the janitor at Franklin School, where he developed fond relationships with the children and considered them part of his extended family.
An avid outdoorsman, Roy found joy in every season. Whether he was hunting in the fall, fishing in the summer, ice fishing during the winter, or riding his ATV in the spring, nature was his sanctuary.
Roy is survived by his children, John Rivers and his significant other Sarah, Jamie Rivers and his wife Laura, and Tammy Gutierrez and her husband Adrian; grandchildren, Mikeal Rivers and his wife Jenn, Ashley Alayon and her husband Ryan, Lindsey Perry and her husband Kyle, Dylan Donna, Megan Nutting and her husband Morgan, Emily Spears, Katie Spears, and Jathan Gutierrez; great grandchildren, Jackson, Braelynn, Jordan, Stiles, Scottie, James, Kash, Karma, Zyair, Miley, Emoriah, and Bentley; sister, Fern Mercure and her husband James; step-children, Raymond Wright Jr. and his wife Mary, Caroline Elkins and her husband Lyndol Jr.; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife, Caroline; and her son, Herbert Wright.
Roy's family would like to thank the staff from Maple Lane Nursing Home for the love and care they provided to Roy and his stuffed cat "Wee Wee".
Friends & family are invited to Roy's life celebration to include a graveside memorial service at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Hill West Cemetery, West Hill Road, Montgomery, VT.
For those who wish, contributions in Roy's memory may be made to the Richford American Legion, 35 River Street, Richford, VT 05476.
