Roy Sharp Obituary

Sharp, Roy E. Jr.
Kalamazoo
Passed away Saturday morning, April 20, 2024 at his home. Roy was born March 29, 1945 in Kalamazoo the son of Roy Edward Sr. and Mary (Peck) Sharp. Roy was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. He was a platoon sergeant with the 507th Engineers where he was awarded a gold star and 2 bronze stars for his service. "Sharp" was a lifetime member of the DVA and the VFW.
In 1966 Roy was united in marriage to his loving wife, Nancy (Dunn). He graduated from Comstock Public Schools and attended KVCC with his studies focused on heating and air conditioning.
"Sharp" worked for the Kalamazoo City Parks Department, Comstock Public Schools and First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo where he retired from in 2001. Post retirement he could be found helping others and volunteering with Loaves and Fishes and the Comstock Community Center. Roy was a kind, considerate and loving man who was always willing to help anyone at any time.
Roy was a car enthusiast and enjoyed traveling in his RV as well as an avid fan of football and NASCAR. Go Lions! When he wasn't working on cars, you could find him busy in his yard or doing some woodworking projects.
Roy was a proud veteran, but nothing made him prouder than the family he shared with his wife of 58 years, Nancy who survives. Also surviving are his 2 children: Drs. Richard (Linda Hsi) Sharp, Kelly (Shaun) Muston; 8 grandchildren who are forever his lovebugs and who he hoped will never forget their special group hugs; Megan, Michael and Quentin Sharp, Cara, Evan, Caleb, Ryan, and Aubree Muston; also surviving are sisters Gloria Kurtz and Lula Mae Stone; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; friend and "brother" Terry (Jean) Wolthuis. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jean and Sharon as well as best friend and "brother" James Quackenbush.
A memorial service to honor Roy's life will be held Sunday, April 28th at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 212 South Park Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Nancy and family. . I am so sorry to hear about Roy's passing. I think of both of you often when I drive by and would look for you both sitting outside on your lawn chairs watching traffic in your garage. When I go to Wendy's I think of you as I do Sheryl when we,d get the Tuesday by 1 get 1 free on the chili after Sheryl's cancer treatment. Good memories. Your in the thoughts and prayers. Love ya bunches, Michelle Jackson

Nancy and family. I am so sorry for your loss. Roy was a wonderful neighbor to my mom until she passed. I´m pretty sure he chased her car down the driveway when she forgot to put it in park (maybe even more than once). He will be missed by so many.
