Roy Edwin Simpson

Roy Edwin "Ed" Simpson, Jr., 67, passed away on May 13, 2024, while engaging in one of his favorite pastimes, playing tennis with friends. He was born in Catawba County, NC, the eldest son of the late Roy Edwin Simpson, Sr., and Mary Thompson Simpson, and grew up in Hickory, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Tirzah Presbyterian Church, 7507 Tirzah Church Road, Waxhaw, NC, 28173, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan Blythe Simpson, his daughter Courtney Taylor (Brody), and his younger brother, Michael Simpson.
Passionate about his dog Rosco, playing tennis with friends, and his alma mater the Clemson Tigers, Ed's inimitable sense of humor and searing forehand will be missed by his fellow hackers at Westwood Swim and Tennis Club and Wake Forest Tennis Club.
After a long career with BB&T, Ed most recently served as Finance Manager at the Centers for Exceptional Children (CFEC) in Winston-Salem.
