Roy David Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on June 1, 2025, at the age of 84. A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Roy was born on February 26, 1941, in McComb, Mississippi, to the late Olar Earl and Pearl Burch Smith. Roy honorably served in the United States Navy and later enjoyed a successful career as an insurance agent.
A man of diverse interests, he found joy in golf, bowling, and flying planes, and he was a devoted fan of the LSU Tigers, passionately cheering for the team during both football and baseball seasons. His love for music was evident during his time as a drum major at Baton Rouge High, reflecting his vibrant spirit and leadership.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Olar and Pearl Smith; sister, Vera Scott, and his brothers, L.D. Smith, Earl Smith, and Harold Smith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Soledad M. Smith; his daughters, Kimberly Mitchell (Dave), and Kelly Simpson (Dean); as well as four cherished grandchildren, Savannah Simpson, Landon Simpson, Mason Mitchell, and Elliot Simpson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Roy’s name to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Foundation, honoring his compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others.
