Roy Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hightower's Memorial Chapel - Douglasville on Dec. 17, 2025.
Roy Edward "Eddie" Smith, age 73, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025. He was born on June 12, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Alfred Eugene Smith and the late Ethel Frances Stradley Smith. Eddie married his late wife, Janet Faye McGee Smith in 1988 and was married to her until her passing in 2025.
Eddie grew up as the youngest of 7 children, the baby of the family and grew into the title of Uncle Eddie to most of the family and Deddy to his only child. He was silly and loving in nature. He loved being outside and enjoyed building things and completing projects. He was also an avid collector of sports cards and memorabilia and enjoyed selling and bartering it and other items at the Flea Market. For more than 25 years he worked as a surveyor for a few companies, ending his surveying career at Keck & Wood Engineers. Eddie retired from Walmart in 2014. During his 11 year retirement Eddie enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, playing bingo in person and on his iPad, maintaining his yard, fishing, traveling to El Paso to visit family and relaxing with Cleo, the cat he did not ask for. Eddie was Baptist by faith.
Eddie is survived by his daughter, Eugenia Smith, his brother and sister-in-love Jimmy and Josefina Smith, sister-in-love Louise Smith, sister-in-love Marliessa Jones, bonus daughter Kyesha Brown and many nieces, nephews, bonus grandchildren and grand Godchildren.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Eugene Smith and the late Ethel Frances Stradley Smith, sisters Margaret and Cleo, brothers Eugene, Charles and Jack as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins over the years.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Hightower's Memorial Chapel.
The Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM in the chapel at the funeral home with Reverend Charles Gibbs officiating.
