Roy Andrew (Peewee) Somers passed away on Monday, July 15. He was born to Johnny and Ruth Simpson Somers on January 13, 1935 in Caswell County. Roy was married to Pauline Priddy Somers for 71 years. He retired from Piedmont Natural Gas Company with 35 years of service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in McLeansville, NC. Roy served 4 years in the US Army and spent time overseas during his service. One of his many talents was milling lumber and woodworking. He crafted many pieces of furniture that can be found in his home as well as the homes of his family. He loved his family and was always there to support them in any way they needed.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Howard Somers, two sisters, Martha Tate and Lillian Ransdell. He is survived by his wife Pauline Priddy Somers, son Andrew Somers and wife Sherry Somers of Archdale, NC, 3 grandsons, Shane Somers and wife Summer of Greensboro, NC, Stefan Somers and wife Becky of Archdale, NC and Storm Somers and wife Stephanie of Julian, NC. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Christian Somers of Denver, CO, Joash Somers of Fort Drum, NY, Avalyn and Ashton Somers of Greensboro, NC, Eliza, Alaina, Levi and Elsie Somers of Archdale, NC and Leighton and Hallie Somers of Julian, NC. Two great-grandchildren, Charlie Rae and Logan Avery Somers are already in heaven waiting for the rest of us to come home.
His body will be at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory located at 2205 South Church Street in Burlington, NC. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening, July 16 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory from 6-8 pm and the funeral will be at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 17 at 2 pm, officiated by Rev. Mike Chrismon with the graveside service to follow at Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, NC.
