Roy Stuart Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 10, 2025.
Roy Harlan Stuart was born September 22, 1926, on a farm near Bondurant in Polk County. His parents were Harlan and Eva (Fenner) Stuart. He had three sisters, Wilma, Dorothy, and Ila Mae. He went to country schools around Bondurant and graduated from Altoona High School in 1944 before it became Southeast Polk. He married Martha Champion in 1949. She was a school teacher. Roy worked for Globe Machinery for thirty-six years in Des Moines. They had Mark Harlan in 1951, Christopher Robin in 1953, and Susan Elizabeth in 1955. She only lived one day. He and Martha moved to Des Moines in 1961 and joined Glen Echo Christian Church. They had eleven grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Martha loved anything Winnie-the-Pooh and made and sold many of the animals. Roy was a wonderful woodworker and made furniture for many people. He and Martha were known for baking great cookies. Roy and Martha were Elders and Roy was our Treasurer for many years. Roy just celebrated his 99th birthday.

Roy was preceded in death by Susan Elizabeth in 1955, Martha in 2008, Chris in 2014, and Mark in 2018 and his parents and sisters. He will be missed by a host of family and friends.

Roy always said, "If you don't have anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all."

Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

Memorial gifts can be made to Glen Echo Christian Church at 4323 Douglas Ave., Des Moines, IA 50310.
