It is with heavy hearts and joy in the hope of heaven, we share the passing of Roy Eldon Vanderpool, M.D., 87, of Rogers, Arkansas. Roy went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
Roy was born on November 16, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Guy Gibson Vanderpool and Hallye Claire Fisher Young Vanderpool. Their love and faith shaped Roy's life and he carried their values forward as a husband, father, and grandfather.
Roy studied at the University of Arkansas Medical School and specialized in dermatology. He was known not only for his expertise, but also for the genuine care and kindness he showed to his patients.
In work and in life, the true source of his kindness was his faith in Christ. Roy deeply understood God's forgiveness and love in his own life, which naturally overflowed into his treatment of others. His faith guided him every day, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Roy's love for his wife, Hilda, was the bedrock of their family. He was a devoted husband and a father who challenged and encouraged his children to grow, always standing by them with love and support. His children and grandchildren knew they could always count on him for wisdom, strength, and love.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda; three children: R. Douglas Vanderpool, M.D. of Rogers; Sue Ann Vanderpool Newman and her husband, Monte, of Bentonville; and Jim Roger Vanderpool and his wife, Millie, of Nashville, Tennessee. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Paul Douglas Newman, Anne Claire Newman, Kathleen Vanderpool, Jay Vanderpool, and Ryan Vanderpool; two brothers, Harold Y. Vanderpool, PhD of Austin, Texas, and Dr. John P. Vanderpool, M.D. of Galveston, Texas; and his oldest brother, Guy Roger Vanderpool, who preceded him in death.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery at 9am on Monday, December 23, 2024.
