Roy West Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2025.
West, Roy Newcomb Roy Newcomb West, a fifth-generation native of Rome, Georgia, passed away on August 21, 2025, following complications from a stroke and subsequent cardiac arrest. He was 64 years old.

Roy was the son of the late Tom Stanley West and Shirley Salmon West of Rome, GA. He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard N. West, Sr of Rome GA and the late Mr. and Mrs. William D. Salmon of Rome, GA.

Roy was educated at St. Mary's School and Darlington School in Rome, GA. He went on to attend Shorter College, where he studied political science and found joy in the company of like-minded friends, especially through his fraternity, Phi Delta Tau.

Roy enjoyed working in his family's construction business, as well as in the manufacturing and textile industries.

Survivors include his wife, Renee A. West; one son, William N. West, (Bailee), two sisters; Frances A. West and Mary Tom "Mattie" Paris, (Breck). He is also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A man of deep personal faith, Roy found peace and meaning in the liturgy and solemnity of the Episcopal Church. He enjoyed sharing his love of God through engaging conversations with others. He also found joy in the stillness of nature, especially while fishing - a pastime that reflected his contemplative nature.

Roy will be remembered for his great sense of humor, willingness to help others in need, and the love he gave freely, expecting nothing in return.
