Ruben Barrera, 64, of Wharton, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at his residence. He was born on September 20, 1959, in New Gulf to the late Blas and Herminia Garza Barrera.
Ruben was raised in New Gulf and graduated from Boling High School. He later attended Wharton County Junior College. Ruben worked as an electrician and machinist for many years. He enjoyed fishing, coaching and watching sports and being around his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Barrera.
Ruben is survived by his daughters, Lori Barrera and Brittany Garza and husband, Mickie, son, Michael Trevino, sister, Rosie Barrera, brothers, Blas Barrera, Jesse Barrera, Rodrigo Barrera, and Eddie Barrera and his grandchildren, Joshua Barrera, Mickie Garza, Bryson Garza, Danielle Garza, Michael Trevino, Jr., Oscar Palacios, Mark Trevino and Makayla Trevino.
Memorial Service will be held at Wharton Funeral Home on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
