Ruben F. "Vena" Martinez, 73, passed away peacefully Friday, March 1, 2024 in San Angelo, surrounded by his family.
Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Deacon Claudio Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Ruben was born January 14, 1951 in San Angelo to Hilario and Flora Flores Martinez. He attended school in Reagan County and then moved to Midland to begin his career in the oil field, where he worked for several years before retiring, then making his home in Mertzon. He met and married Rosalinda Torres Martinez in 1975 and she preceded him in death April 21, 1990. Years later he met and married Maria Sandoval in 1996 and she preceded him in death July 19, 2008. Ruben's love for music is where he found joy and his guitar is where he was able to express many thoughts and feelings. Besides his family and music, the greatest joy of his life was his dog, Blue.
Survivors include his three daughters, Marsha Martinez of San Angelo, Donna Braxton and husband David of Midland, Melissa Aguilar and husband Luis of Carrollton; two sons, Carlos Martinez of Midland and Ruben Martinez and wife Cindy of Big Lake; two step-daughters, Jessica Sandoval of Midland and Lety Edmondson and husband Justin of Abilene; two sisters, Rosie Torres of San Angelo and Norma Bermea and husband Roy of Midland; two brothers, Ray Martinez of Midland and Rudy Martinez and wife Belia of Odessa; a granddaughter, whom he raised as his own, Flora Nicole and her husband Angel Medrano; 21 grandchildren, Anthony, Eloy, Shady, Brianna, Ethan, Diego, Joshua, Alyssa, Madison, Marques, Elijah, Sierra, John Henry, Princess, Zachary, Victor, Justin, Sergio, John, Mark and Maya; 11 great grandchildren, Averielle, Alizayah, Kai, Zion, Emmanuel, Xiomara, Ahlani, Jacob, Alana and Bryson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Gloria Martinez.
The family would like to thank all the staff from Hospice of San Angelo and Jackie Aguero for all the love and care given to their dad.
