Ruben Martinez Sr., 76, of Casa Grande, AZ, died on November 20, 2024. He was born on July 14, 1948, to Eleno Sr. and Petra Martinez, in Weslaco, TX.
Ruben proudly served in the Army 11th Cavalry Blackhorse from 1967-1970. Served in Viet Nam 1968-1969. He married the love of his life of 51 years on July 14, 1973, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Casa Grande, AZ.
He played football in his high school years. He was a purple belt in Karate and was so proud to see two of his grandchildren follow in his footsteps. He loved photography and captivated wonderful photos of scenery, flowers and especially loved candid shots of people. He also was on a bowling team, loved to play racket ball and enjoyed woodworking.
Ruben graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1967 Attended Heavy Equipment School in Homestead, Florida in 1970.
He especially loved attending his Martinez Family Reunions, family birthdays and other family gatherings. His family was very special to him. Ruben and his wife attended his Army Reunions all across the country as many times as they could. He appeared tough on the outside but if you knew him, you saw the softer side of him and the love he had for puppy dogs and kids. Worked for ASARCO copper mine from 1972-1984 and retired from ADOT in 2008. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church and assisted with the building of the Church that stands there currently. He devoted his time to helping with the Awana's cubbies and was proud to serve his Church.
His Blackhorse family are very much welcome to attend the services.
Ruben is survived by his wife; Mary Ann (Laird) Martinez; Children: Ruben Martinez Jr. (Sophia), Laura Catherine (Martinez) Frase, and Timothy Stephen Martinez (Missy); Siblings: Johnny Martinez (Nani), Yolanda (Martinez) Tapia, MaryHelen (Martinez) Petit, MaryGrace (Chachi) Martinez Zavala; Nine Grandchildren, and Two Great-Grandchildren.
Ruben is preceded by both his parents, and Sister: MaryJean (Martinez) Ortiz; Brothers: Eleno Martinez Jr., Ramiro Martinez Sr and Pete Martinez.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Gardens Chapel, 525 N. Peart Rd. Casa Grande, AZ.
Visitation, 9:30 am, Funeral Service, 10:00 am, with burial to follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
