Ruben Ponce, 71, passed away February 21, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born May 23, 1953, to Juan and Victoria (Partida) Ponce, in Edinburg, TX. Ruben married Rita Torrez on April 17, 1971. He worked as a chemical sprayer for Plains Grain for 40 years.
Ruben enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the lake cabin, vacationing with Rita, and their compadres, Roy and comadre Josie DeAnda. He, also, enjoyed watching the Antelopes on Friday nights, and on Sunday’s it was the Dallas Cowboys. Ruben loved spending time with his family and his beautiful wife; he made this a priority in his life.
Ruben was preceded in death by his father and mother, Juan and Victoria Ponce, a sister and two brothers, Estella Ponce, Roy Ponce, and Johnny Ponce. Those remaining to cherish his fond memories and carry-on his legacy are, his loving wife Rita Ponce, of Abernathy, their children, Ruben (Amy) Ponce of Abernathy, Ralph (Nina) Ponce of Lubbock, and Dena Ponce of Lubbock; their grandchildren, Isaiah Ponce, Taryn Lewis (Clayton), Skye Ponce (Harley Garza), Ian Ponce, Elijah Ponce, and Jacob Lemonds; their great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Jiraiya Garza and Easton and Rylie Lewis; and sister Sylvia (David) Trapp of Sumter S.C.
The family of Ruben Ponce will honor and celebrate his life with a public visitation from 12:00pm-8:00PM, Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Venue on Broadway/Combest Family Funeral Home, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock; with Rosary starting at 6:00PM. A Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, February 27, 2025, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Abernathy; burial will follow, at the Abernathy Cemetery. The Ponce family would like to acknowledge Devault Flower Shop for the floral arrangements. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Combest Family Funeral Homes, Lubbock.
