Ruby Adams, known by many as Sister and Mother Ruby was
born February 16, 1938, in Waynesboro, GA. At the age of 17,
Ruby migrated to Elmira, NY with a few years stint in New
York City and a return to Elmira, where she lived until her
passing on March 15, 2025. A young girl with limited
educational resources made a life for herself and for 19 years ran
a care home for the elderly and people with special needs with
her late husband. Ruby transformed 107 Grove Street into a
welcoming home for the entire community. There was always
someone from the neighborhood found at her house, as her
doors were open for anyone to stop in for food, to socialize, find
solace, or simply to relax on the porch. Ruby had a genuine
love for people, embracing individuals from all backgrounds and
walks of life. Her warmth and hospitality made everyone feel
like family. Following the passing of her husband, Ruby
departed the infamous residence of 107 Grove Street and began
conducting elderly care in the homes of others. She cared for
numerous individuals throughout Elmira, NY with the most care
and love. Holding many in her arms as they took their last
breath. Ruby was a member of the Friendship Seventh Day
Adventist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed fellowship,
reading, writing, and cooking. She was a proud grandmother.
She would say, "I have a special place in my heart for my
grandchildren." Ruby had a large spiritual family and
community; she was loved by so many. Ruby humbly departed
this world as an Author of a published book, "Doesn't Anybody
Hear My Cry?" and creator of a Vegan Cookbook. She was full
of stories, loved reading her Bible, loved poetry, a prayer
warrior, and loved God wholeheartedly. Family and friends are
invited to call at the Elmira Seventh day Adventist Church, 813
Maple Ave., Elmira, NY on Thursday March 25th
from 11 am to
12 pm. Services to celebrate the life of Ruby will be conducted
at the conclusion of calling hours at 12 pm with Pastor Ralph
Featherstone officiating. Committal prayers and interment will
follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
" In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof
there is no death." Proverbs 13:1
