In Loving Memory of Ruby Doris Holland
May 2, 1956 – December 21, 2024
A rose bloomed in
Sherman, Texas, on May 2, 1956, when Ruby Doris Holland entered this world, the sixth of nine children born to George Ann and C. L. Holland. Her life was a testament to grace, resilience, and boundless love, as she embraced every moment with warmth and compassion. Ruby was a proud graduate of Fred Douglas School. She moved to California where she spent most of her life. Upon returning to
Sherman, Texas she pursued higher education at the International Business School, where she honed her skills and prepared for a life of service and success. Her passion for learning and dedication to excellence were evident in all she did.
Ruby's greatest joy was found in her role as a devoted mother to her three daughters, Vernell (Kiddy), KaShasta and Dequala for whom she provided unwavering support, guidance, and love. The garden around her grew as she transitioned into the role of NaNa for 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who all love and adored her. Her nurturing spirit and infectious laughter made her a beloved presence in the lives of her family and all who knew her.
She will be remembered not only for her kind and gentle nature but also for her strength as a woman who grew from deep roots of love and community. Ruby cherished her siblings, the bond they shared, and the lessons they taught one another throughout life's journey.
On December 21, 2024, Ruby's petals gently returned to the ground, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and strength that will never fade. She is preceded in death by her parents, George Ann and C. L. Holland; brothers: Her brothers Calvin Holland Jr., Vernon Holland and Tyrone Holland; and sisters: Mary Kate McKinney, Carol Ann (Nannie) Hawkins, Janice Dawson and grandson: Kevionte (Nuke) Stevenson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Daughters Vernell (Kiddy) Cummins, KaShasta Bell, Dequala Bell; Sisters: Gloria Bailey and Catharine (Scott) Godwin and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She leaves behind a garden of love that will continue to flourish in the hearts of all who knew her. As we say goodbye, let us remember Ruby as the vibrant rose she was, her essence forever woven into the tapestry of our lives.
