Ruby May Cantwell

Ruby May Mitchel was born January 1, 1922 near Jonah, Texas to Thomas Levi and Lura Hicks Mitchel. She passed away March 20, 2023 at Baylor Scott & White in Round Rock, Texas at 101 years of age.
Ruby's family moved to Florence, Texas in 1937. She married Foy Gray on September 27, 1938 and together they had five children, Mary Lou, Patsy Ruth, Larry Gene, Lynn Ray, and Janice Sharon. After Foy died in 1973, Ruby married Vernon Cantwell in July 1978. Ruby and Vernon traveled to 49 of the 50 States mostly in a motorhome. Ruby was a member of Briggs Baptist Church, and she worked for Florence and Killeen before working at Fort Hood for 18 years as a dental assistant.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Levi and Lura Mitchel; her first husband, Foy Gray; her second husband, Vernon Cantwell; her son, Larry Gray; her brother, Thomas Mitchel; and her sisters, Erline Lowe, Winnie Scarbrough, and Marguerite Patton.
Ruby is survived by her children, Mary Lou, Patsy Ruth, Lynn Ray, and Janice Sharon; her grandchildren, Daniel Brown (Shani), Jennifer Hebert, Shanna Boley (Brandon), Randy Wiseman, Kendall Wiseman, Kevin Wiseman, Kirby Wiseman (Amber), Darrell Gray (Debbie), Phillip Gray (Velma), Terry Gray (Brandy), Tony Gray (Tara), Steven Bullard (Kathy), and Cara Pruitt (Eric); her great-grandchildren, Austin Brown (Brittany), Piper Brown, Ryan Hebert (Kaylee), Jarod Hebert, Ethan Boley, Emma Boley, Jovian Boley, Ruby Ann Wiseman, Reed Wiseman, Darriek Gray, Dylan Gray, D.J. Barton (Lauren), Laci Brown (Alex), Hannah Gray, Paydon Gray, Jacob Gray, Alison Whitley (Josh), Garrett Gray, Emily Nash (Christian), Barrett Gray, Hadley Gray, Trevor Bullard, Brandon Bullard, Haley Mackey, and Hannah Mackey; and her great-great-grandchildren, Spencer Brown, Jillian Brown, Colleen Brown, Denym Gray, Noah Ramirez, Ezra Hebert, Liam Whitley, Lily Whitley, Parker Ann Guidley, and Hayden Nash.
A visitation for Ruby will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church Florence, 106 College Avenue, Florence, Texas 76527, with the funeral service to follow with Harvey Patton and Rip Moran officiating. The burial will occur at Florence City Cemetery, 507B Story Avenue, Florence, Texas 76527 following the services. Her grandsons will act as pallbearers.
