Ruby Dale Smith Deese, 79, of Homerville passed away Friday evening, August 2, 2024, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Brunswick, GA to the late James Lonnie “Buster” Smith and Ruby Vera Inman Smith. Mrs. Deese lived in Homerville most of her life where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Harvest Time Church of God and always enjoyed leading worship, playing the piano, and singing.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, James Edward Westmoreland and Johnny William Westmoreland, Jr.; one brother, J.L. Smith; one sister-in-law, Teresa Smith; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Mathis and Carlton Stalvey.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Jerry Deese of Homerville; four children, Cindy Deese of Homerville, Ginger Prescott (husband Ray) of Nahunta, Johnny Lavon Deese of Homerville, and Kathy Pearson (husband Tommy) of Homerville; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Johnston (Ben) of Homerville, Brent Westmoreland (fiancé Missy) of Homerville, Ashton Hendrix (McKenzie) of Homerville, Jherri Prescott of Manor, Christopher Graddy (Taylor) of Nahunta, and Britt Arnold of Nahunta; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernell Smith of Homerville; two sisters, Ruthell Stalvey of Homerville and Leila Bell Mathis of Homerville; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday morning, August 8, 2024, at 11 am at Harvest Time Church of God with Rev. Ben Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday morning beginning at 10 am at the church.
