Ruby May "Maidie" Eckols, age 100 of
Seguin, Texas, passed away on December 27, 2023. She was born on February 28, 1923, in Elmina, Texas to Helen (Meece) and Jasper William Courtney.
She was a steadfast woman of faith who reflected Christ's love in her words and deeds.
She was a 1940 graduate of Livingston High School where she was Drum Major and elected All-School Favorite.
She wed Wiley Eugene "Eck" Eckols on May 30, 1942, and they were married 60 years. They raised their 4 children in Houston where Maidie was one of the original employees of Spring Branch Bank, working there for over 20 years and retiring as a Vice President.
In 1981 Maidie and Eck built a home on their acreage in Guadalupe County where they began ranching. They joined Forest Hills Baptist Church where Maidie taught a Ladies Sunday School class.
Maidie enjoyed quilting, gardening, and cooking for her family. She had the gift of hospitality.
Maidie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Chyde, James, and Dawson Courtney, and sister Frances Courtney Mosher.
Survivors include daughters, Dana Eckols Riley and husband Robert James Riley of
Wharton, Texas, Maidlen Eckols Smoot and husband Bobby Joe Smoot of Splendora, Texas, and Deborah Eckols of
Seguin, Texas; son, Wiley Eugene Eckols, Jr., and wife Yturria Eckols of Seguin; grandchildren, Shannon Riley Winn and husband Brian Winn, Kristen Riley Frazier and partner John DeVilbiss, Bobby Joe Smoot, Jr. and wife Amanda, Kelly Smoot, Christopher Wade Smoot and wife Bethany, Wiley Eugene Eckols III and wife Trisha, and Sarah Jo Eckols Scholtz; great-grandchildren, Abby and Dawson Rollwitz, Kynlie Riley, Maddie Frazier, Garrett and Gracie Eckols, Avery and Olivia Smoot, many other friends and loving family members.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mitch Kolenovsky officiating. Interment will follow in the Dewville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Wiley Eckols, III, Garrett Eckols, Chris Smoot, Bobby Smoot, Jr., Brian Winn, Dawson Rollwitz, John DeVilbiss, and Cody Westbrook.
