Ruby Eveland, 103, of Oskaloosa, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at home.
Ruby Beverly Eveland, daughter of Thomas Franklin and Naomi (Reynolds) Wiser, was born at the home of her parents, September 9, 1922, in St. Anthony, Idaho. After graduating from high school in 1941, she worked as a farm hand and later as a nurse's aid at a nursing home. Ruby and her sister moved to Amarillo, Texas, in 1942, and she was hired as a veterinarian's assistant. It was in Amarillo that she met her husband, Paul H. Eveland. They were married in Amarillo on August 2, 1942. That same year, they returned to Oskaloosa, where they made their home. Ruby was a homemaker, and in her free time, she enjoyed reading, horseback riding, puzzles, and caring for her many pets.
Her family includes her daughters: Pauline Eveland of Oskaloosa and Nancy (Don) Williams of New Sharon; two grandchildren: Paul (Jodi) Williams of New Sharon and Billie Dawn (Joe) Komarek of Knoxville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on June 17, 1986; an infant son, Larry James; four sisters: Clara Kinister, Helen Gould, Hazel Powell, and Ruth Humble; and three brothers: Eugene "Gene", Jimmy, and Jack Wiser.
A special thank you to Judy and Craig Hendricks, Deb and Kirby Yett, and everyone at Mahaska Health Hospice for their kindness and assistance.
As was her wish, Ruby's body has been cremated, and no services are planned at this time. Memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
