Ruby Marie McCroskey
April 12, 1942 – November 10, 2024
Ruby McCroskey, 82, of Rocky Gap, Virginia, formerly of Anawalt, West Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born April 12, 1942, in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, and was a longtime member of Longpoint Missionary Baptist Church. After moving to Rocky Gap, Virginia, she attended and became a member of Bland Baptist Church in Bland, Virginia, when her health allowed. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her children, and a loving grandmother to her grandchildren. She was “Sweet Mamaw” to her great grandson, Jaxton, who was the apple of her eye and gave her so much enjoyment.
She was the daughter of the late Ivory and Della Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey McCroskey, brothers, Dale, June, and Raymond Walker, half-brothers, Ralph, Herman, Laverne, Junior Ray, Gale, and Delbert “Butch” Walker; Blaine, Wayne, and Raymond Farmer; half-sisters, Irene and Ilene Hash, Oma Jean McNeill, and Marie Strangler, sister-in-law, Juanita Walker and brother-in-law, Michael White.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Scott McCroskey, of Wytheville, Virginia, daughters Vickie (Bill) Magyar of Bland, Virginia, and Debbie (Rod) Shrader of Rocky Gap, Virginia, her grandchildren, Abby (Joshua) Taylor of Piney, Virginia, Josh (Morgan) Shrader of Max Meadows, Virginia, Samantha (Nathan) Cox of Rocky Gap, Virginia, Sophie and Brayden McCroskey of Wytheville, Virginia and great grandson, Jaxton Taylor; sister, Opal White of Pageton, West Virginia, sister in law, Mary Ann Walker of Ripley, West Virginia, and half-brother Frank (Shirley) Walker of West Jefferson, North Carolina. Also, two very special little girls, Maisy and Lainey Stowers, who made her day with their visits.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia, with Pastors Kevin Johnston and Josh Shrader officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Bluewell, West Virginia. Pallbearers will be Scott McCroskey, Rod Shrader, Bill Magyar, Josh Shrader, Joshua Taylor, and Nathan Cox. Friends may call on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com.
