Ruby Joan Moore

Ruby Joan Moore May 30, 1925 - April 13, 2012 Ruby was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on May 30, 1925 to Elmer and Edna Thomas. At age 14 in the summer of 39 her parents loaded up everything they owned in a Model A Ford to escape the Depression and Dust Bowl and joined the human river flowing west headed for the "Promised Land" they settled in Bakersfield's tent and shack settlement "Hoover Camp". Their entire journey was captured and documented by Government photographer Russell Lee, our treasured family photos are on file with the Library of Congress. Ruby and her best friend Lucille Holder thought it was nothing for two little old ladies to head across country on a road trip with no worries stopping at every casino along the way. Bowling was her other passion, she played in many different leagues and taught children's classes as well. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ray, daughter Sandy, parents Elmer and Edna, brothers Amos and Frank. Ruby is survived by her brother Tommy, children Terry and Davetta Moore of Concord, NC, Carolyn Moore of Selma, OR, Claudia and Paul Milazzo of Bakersfield, Diana Kofahl of Bakersfield, Lori and Ron Harrison of Jacksonville, AR, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Ruby passed away quietly at home with her family by her side. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, April 21st, at 11:00am at the home of Paul and Claudia Milazzo, 5601 Georgia Drive in Bakersfield. Her family would like to thank her in home care giver Suzan Schneider for the tender loving care she provided to their mother and to Mondo her Optimal Hospice nurse for his love, comfort and compassion.
