Ruby Maxine Schilling, 98, of Rushville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025 at Country Club Manor in Steubenville, Ohio.
Ruby was born Jan. 12, 1927 in Parke County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Roy D. and Fern (Burke) Foreman.
Upon graduating from Newport High School in 1945, Ruby accepted a position at RCA in Indianapolis, where she enjoyed attending various performances especially by big band legends of the era.
Ruby married Earl Schilling on Sept. 13, 1945. They shared 65 years of love and companionship. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2012. She dedicated her life to her family and the family’s trucking company founded in the 1950s as Estelle & Schilling, later becoming Fraley & Schilling.
Ruby enjoyed time with her siblings attending many gatherings and events, traveling with Earl and spending winters in Florida. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother with a positivity towards life that will continue to inspire the younger generation who cherished their time with Ruby.
Surviving are: one sister, Connie Clark of Lafayette, Ind.; two brothers: Kaye (Chris) Foreman of Cayuga, Ind., and Carl (Thelma) Foreman of Danville Ind., two sons, Kenneth (Barbara) Schilling of Mingo Junction, Ohio, and Robert (Melissa) Schilling of Vonore, Tenn. Six grandchildren: Ben (Shannon) Schilling, Emily (David) Schloss, Sarah Schilling McElroy; Ryan (Nina), Andrew and Daniel (Shelby) Schilling. Eleven great-grandchildren: Preston, Sage, Ava, Lilly, Parker, Augustine, Charlie, Lucy, Felicity, Knox and Forrest.
Along with her husband and parents, Ruby was preceded in death by a cherished daughter Joanne, sisters: Norma Pueschner, Carole Hawkins, Juanita Julick, Martha “Teal” Chew; brothers: Roy Foreman Jr. and Louis Ray Foreman.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at Bell Mortuary located at 1444 W. US Hwy 52, Fountaintown, Ind., with Chip West officiating. Burial will follow at the New Palestine, Ind., cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Joanne Schilling, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
