Ruby Seymour Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knotts Funeral Home - Pittsboro on Jan. 1, 2026.
Ms. Ruby Jewel (Harrington) Seymour, age 81, of Moncure, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

Obituary

Ruby was born under the name Ruby Jewel Harrington in Haw River Township, Chatham County, NC on February 14, 1944, to Minnie Mae Crump and Phillip Harrington. Ruby's birth date was reported a day late, so it is recorded as February 15, 1944, so she celebrated two days.

Ruby was raised in Moncure, NC where she was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church from a child through adult hood where she sung in the Senior choir and was a member of The Spiritual Voices as one of the lead singers.

Ruby attended Chatham County school systems.

Ruby and LeAnder Seymour married at the age of 19, had two children from their union and enjoyed just shy of 60 loving years together.

She held various jobs, which included picking cotton, Pittsboro Poultry, Webster Poultry, babysitting the neighborhood kids, and later she retired as a Housekeeper from UNC.

Ruby always started and ended her days with reading her word. She enjoyed carpool shopping with her friends and she loved singing, dancing, sewing, doing word puzzles, and painting her long nails to match her outfit or the season.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, LeAnder Seymour; one brother, Alonzo Harrington; her parents, Minnie Mae Crump Harrington and Phillip Harrington; her grandparents, Susie Crump and Norman Crump; four aunts, Daisy Murray, Lucille Perry, Beatrice Worley, Sylvia Crump Rogers. three uncles, Clinton Crump, Samuel Crump, and Norman Crump Jr.; four brothers-in-laws, Robert Seymore (Bertha), Hubert Seymour, Eli Seymour, and Paul Seymore; two sisters-in-law, Robina Seymour Cameron (William) and Mary Seymour; one grandson, Jeffrey Alston, and her best friend, Dorothy Couch Raines.

She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, one daughter, Julia Seymore Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, NC; one son, Lee Seymour (Darice) of Gastonia, NC; seven grandchildren, Aretha Seymour, James Johnson, Arlene Johnson, Arletha Johnson, Jared Johnson, Tahleyah Seymour, and Shanice Hartgrove; seven great grandchildren, Malaiyah, Jared Jr., Caylin, Kenzlei, Karter, Camden, and Ashton; one uncle, Willie Crump; one brother-in-law, James "Coot" Seymour of Sanford, NC; one sister-in-law, Mae Ruth Seymore of Pittsboro, NC; friend and hair stylist, Hope Welch; a caring friend and co-worker, Ella Mae Battle; a special cousin-in-law, Delois Graham and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
