Ruby F. Smedley

Ruby F. Smedley, a devoted woman of faith, love, and purpose, transitioned from this life on October 20, 2025. She was born on December 1, 1955, in Bluefield, West Virginia, to the late Joe H. and Mildred Jackson.

A lifelong member of Eliezer Church of Christ, Ruby's spiritual foundation was planted in childhood and blossomed throughout her life. She faithfully served her church in multiple roles for many years and held the esteemed position of Lady of the Church for 28 years. Through her unwavering faith, grace, and compassion, she became a guiding light and source of inspiration to her church, family, and community.

Ruby served as the Financial Secretary at the Sonshine Christian Academy from 1982, until she became one of the visionary founders of Cornerstone Christian Academy, which she served with excellence for 17 years alongside her sisters, Diane and Angela. Her dedication to education and spiritual growth, nurturing both intellect and faith, impacted many.

A proud graduate of East High School, Ruby continued to pursue her passion for learning, earning her degree from Wilberforce University in 2008. Her academic achievements reflected her perseverance, strength, and belief in lifelong growth.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents: Joe H. & Mildred Jackson, sister and brother (in law): Vivian Tyus (Rayfield). Ruby leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted husband of 48 years, Phillip A. Smedley, Sr.; two beloved children: Phillip A. Smedley, II (Sylvina) and Maia Gardner (E'yen); nine cherished grandchildren: Arin, J'sun, Nalani, Raya, Niah, Lesa, Kyan, Bria, and Phillip III; and three bonus grandchildren: Amarachi, Maka, and Chidi, Jr. Her siblings: Joe Jackson (Theresa), Larry Jackson (Katrina), David Jackson (Sandra), Diane Jackson, Curtis Jackson (Deborah), Michael Jackson (Sandra), Angela Taylor (Samuel), and Christopher Jackson (Tanez); a host of nieces, nephews, family, students of Cornerstone, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
