Ruby Stewart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborn Funeral Home - Shreveport on Dec. 13, 2025.
Ruby Mulhern Stewart, 79, passed away on December 11, 2025. She was born on April 5, 1946, in Monroe, Louisiana, to James Mulhern and Jean Ford Mulhern.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Osborn Funeral Home on December 20, 2025, with Rev. Kathy Wafer officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Park.

Ruby earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Biology from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe). She retired from LSU Health Sciences Center, where she worked as a Clinical Research Assistant at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. Ruby was known for her lifelong interest in botany and her ability to recall plant classifications years later. She was an avid reader, a talented writer, and a devoted practitioner of yoga. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and decorative painting. She served for several years as President of the United Methodist Women. Ruby was such a creative woman with a heart of gold, she will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Caron Bragg; and her nephew, Alan Gross. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Stewart; first cousins Frank Mulhern of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dick Mulhern of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Ricky Mulhern of Clear Lake, Louisiana, Randy Cox of Haughton, Louisiana, and Fredonia Seely of Lorena, Texas; nieces Allison Gibbs (Dale) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Laura Cairns (Rick) of Austin, Texas, and Mary Gross of Coppell, Texas; great-nieces Caroline Gibbs and Haley Gibbs, both of Shreveport, Louisiana; and great-nephew Justin Gross of Durham, North Carolina.

Pallbearers are John Stewart, Dale Gibbs, and Rick Cairns.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the LSU Health Sciences Foundation, 920 Pierremont Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71106.
