Ruby Sutter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 16, 2026.
Ruby Patrick-Sutter, age 89, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Avita Health Hospital in Ontario, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruby was born on March 9, 1937, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, to the late Clyde and Vell (Carter) Adkins. She lived in Shelby the majority of her life moving here as a little girl. She was a 1955 graduate of Shiloh High School. Following high school, Ruby went to cosmetology school and obtained her license becoming a hair dresser. She eventually used her skills and entrepreneurial spirit to open her own salon - Central Salon of Beauty - located in Shelby, where she was in business for 36 years.

Ruby was a woman of deep faith who attended the First Baptist Church of Shelby. She was known for being neat and keeping a tidy home. In fact, it was a running joke among family and friends that wherever Ruby went, things had to be neat and clean before anything else could happen. She was also an exceptional cook who delighted in preparing delicious, homemade meals for her family. With her caring and generous heart, Ruby often made more food than was needed at family gatherings so that everyone could take leftovers home and continue enjoying her cooking later.

Ruby also had a passion for travel and especially loved warm, sunny destinations. Marco Island was a favorite getaway for Ruby and Robert, and they visited often. When she wasn't traveling with her husband, Ruby enjoyed taking trips with her sister, Pauline, and the two of them especially loved traveling to Arizona to visit family. When she was at home, Ruby treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. She truly loved being a grandmother and had a natural gift for it. Her warmth and kindness made everyone feel welcome and at home.

At this time, the family would like to share a personal note for their mother. Stephanie, Randy, and late son, Greg feel incredibly fortunate and blessed to have had Brownie and Ruby as their parents. Both of them would have done anything for their children. They always protected, cared for, and loved them unconditionally. It has been a true honor to be their children and to have received such love. We are also grateful for the years Ruby shared with Robert Sutter and for the love, kindness, and generosity he showed to her and to our entire family. We are leaning on the promise of Revelation 21:4.

Ruby is survived by her two children, Stephanie (Greg) Hummel of Shelby and Randy (Jenny) Patrick of Shelby; three step-children, Thomas (Kim) Sutter of Shiloh, Ohio, Robert (April Blair) Sutter of Shiloh, and Dawn Shepherd of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Sara Hall, Hollie Patrick, Joshua Patrick, Japheth Patrick, Tristan Hummel, Morgan Hummel and Camryn Hummel; six step-grandchildren, Rachel (Ben) Slone, Bridget Sutter, Wyatt "Gus" Sutter, Chad Shepherd, AJ Shepherd and Cory Shepherd; three great-grandchildren, Brynn Hall, Jacob Hall and Harvey Patrick; two step great-grandchildren, Emery Slone and Beckett Slone; one sister, Pauline Kegley of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Patrick of Mansfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2021, Robert E. Sutter, who she married on November 22, 2006; her first husband, Hamilton "Brownie" Patrick, who passed away in 2001; dear son, Greg Patrick, who passed away in 1995, and siblings, Mildred (Willis) Stamper and Johnny (Faye) Adkins.

Friends may visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2026. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00PM. Pastor Russ Smith will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
