RUBY HAZEL WILLIAMS DAVIS
DECEMBER 25, 1937 - MARCH 27, 2025
Ruby Hazel Williams Davis transitioned peacefully to eternal life on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Ruby was born December 25, 1937 in Atmore, AL and was a longtime resident of Mobile, AL. She was the oldest child of Joe and Minnie Joiner and James Williams. Ruby was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of forty-three years, Booker T. Davis, her parents, her daughter, Cheryl Davis, her sisters, Ethel Bell and Martha Whitaker and her brother, Joseph Joiner, Jr.
Ruby graduated from Mobile County Training School in the Class of 1956. Shortly thereafter, Ruby and Booker T. were married by a Justice of the Peace in Mississippi before he commenced service as a United States Marine in Oceanside, California. Ruby and Booker T. had three daughters: Cheryl Davis (deceased), Vicki Marie Davis, and Akimulisa "Kim" Davis. Ruby and young Vicki relocated to New York City, where Booker T. had secured employment as an educator. While in New York, Ruby was an officer with the New York City Police Department. After living in New York for several years, the family eventually returned to make a permanent home in Mobile, where Kim was born.
Ruby was a long-time member of St Peter Baptist Church, and she lived a life rooted in love and devotion. She created a home filled with laughter, warmth and boundless affection. She was a wonderful wife to Booker T, to whom she was married until his death in 1999, and was a loving, supportive, nurturing and selfless mother to Vicki and Kim, who were her pride and joy. As wonderful a mother as Ruby was, she was even more incredible as a grandmother to her beloved grandson, Jordan. He was the apple of her eye. She loved Jordan immensely and was so proud of the loving and respectful young man he has grown into.
In addition to her devoted daughters and grandson, Ruby is survived by her sisters: Colleen Goodloe and Mary Allen; brothers: Anthony Joiner and Robert Joiner; two sisters-in-law: Gwen Davis and Dowartha Davis; a brother-in-law, James Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members and close friends.
To know Ruby was to love her. She was a gracious host and had a gift of making people feel welcome. She was kind and friendly and she possessed a sense of humor that was legendary. She will be missed more than words can say.
