Rudolph Edward Frank, a resident of Warren, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 87. A son of Rudolph and Amanda Frank, he was born on October 11, 1936 in Forest Park, Illinois. Ed's career spanned several different roles, including Facility and Plant Manager for the University of Detroit Mercy.
Strong in his Catholic faith, Ed and his wife, Rosie, belonged to the Third Order of Carmelites. Ed gave generously of his time and mechanical expertise to the Carmelite sisters of Detroit, tending their garden as well as transporting priests on their errands. On vacations, Ed and Rosie visited monasteries and cathedrals in both the United States and Canada. Ed had a strong interest in boats, owning one himself as well as studying the freighters that passed through Lake Superior. If one was in Ed's company, he could tell you the name of each freighter as well as the materials it carried. While on the lake, Ed enjoyed fishing with Rosie. On land, Ed was an avid reader, especially of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series. He was an accomplished marksman in both skeet shooting (a hobby he shared with Rosie) and deer hunting. In Ed's younger years, he rarely missed a hockey night in Canada. Kind-hearted to animals, Ed had many dogs who enriched his life. His greatest love in life, however, was Rosie. Rosie was a beacon and constant presence for Ed. Ed's devotion to his wife remained even after her death- he visited her gravesite and shared her memory constantly, and longed to see her again in heaven. Ed will be remembered for his strength of mind, character, and love of family. He will be dearly missed.
Beloved husband of the late Rose Marie. Dear brother of Gladys Geistler, the late Elsie "Dolly" White, the late Louise Frank, the late Janette Peach and the late Betty Dobracki. Brother-in- law of Carole Andrus and the late Cornelia "Corky" Hall, the late Cynthia Lionts and the late Leon Andrus. Proud uncle of several nieces and nephews. Also survived by his constant furry companion, the family dog Sophie.
A visitation for Ed will be held on Tuesday, March 12, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm with a Rosary at 5:30 pm at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (4 blks. E. of Woodward), Royal Oak, 48067. Ed will lie in state on Wednesday, March 13, from 9:30 until time of Mass at 10 am at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 W. 12 Mile Road. For those unable to attend the Mass, it will be live streamed at https://shrinechurch.com/live-streamed-mass. Ed will be laid to rest at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
Donations in Rudolph's memory may be made to the Michigan Humane Society, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025.
