One of the greatest blessings of my life was to be a student in his Basic Logic course in 1977, where I framed his personal contribution to disputation: Argumentum ad Vanterpoolium. He never minded letting his students know that he appreciated a vigorous debate, and welcomed an intellectual challenge. The critical thinking skills I developed in his course have remained with me throughout my life, and gotten me into lots of trouble. Throughout my journey at Dominguez Hills, I regularly ran into him and communed with gratitude. One of the richest rewards I've known was to be invited to a party at his Carson home in the summer of 1979, when the fun went on all night, the music and dancing never stopped, and the drinks were awesome.
May he rest in peace. It was a privilege to have known him, and I am deeply in his debt.
