Rudy Ogburn Obituary

Rudy Langdon Ogburn
December 4, 1956 - March 30, 2022
Raleigh, North Carolina - Rudy Langdon Ogburn, 65, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
Rudy was born in Wake County on December 4, 1956, the son of the late Rudolph and Edna Langdon Ogburn. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Deborah Fitzgibbons Ogburn; daughter, Reagan Dianne Ogburn; sons, David Rudolph Ogburn, Langdon Rudy Ogburn; sisters, Rue Stewart, Jamone Clocker and husband, Joe; brother, Tandy Ogburn and wife, Sarah; many nieces and nephews and a very close extended family.
Rudy is a Willow Spring, NC native. He attended Wake Forest University for both undergraduate and law schools. He worked for First Citizens Bank in Greensboro for several years before moving to Raleigh. He has worked for Young, Moore and Henderson, PA, for 31 years, developing their Estate Planning department and serving hundreds of families with his expertise and kind, gentle ways. During these years, he served Wake County, the NC Bar and ACTEC in the following capacities: President of the Wake County Estate Planning Council, Chair of the Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, Chair of the Estate Planning and Probate Law Specialization Committee of the NC State Bar, NC State Chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Council (ACTEC) and Member of the ACTEC Board of Regents. In recognition of his work, he received the 2020 NCBA Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section Distinguished Service Award. He loved his work, and thoroughly enjoyed his fellow estate lawyers' camaraderie and intellectual stimulation in NC and across the US.
In addition to all his professional contributions, Rudy believed "...that service to humanity is the best work of life" (Jaycee Creed). Rudy believed in giving back to the community and volunteered continually during his life. Rudy was an active member of the Greensboro and then Raleigh Jaycees for 15 years. He served as President of the Raleigh Jaycees and Chair of the Brookhill Steeplechase during that time. In the Jaycees, he made solid friendships that lasted through the end of his life. Rudy also volunteered as the Chair of the Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina and as a Member of the National Planned Giving Council of the American Cancer Society.
Rudy was a very spiritual man, and led by his Christian values and example. He was a lifetime participant in the Primitive Baptist Church, and most recently became a Member and Deacon of Lamms Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Throughout the four years of his illness, he carried this in his heart: "Your greatest test is when you are able to bless someone else while you are going through your own storm." He continued to serve others while enduring his trials with cancer.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in the Chapel at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. The burial will follow at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rudy's memory to the Methodist Home for Children, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.

We are so sorry to learn of Rudy's passing. Rudy worked with my dad at First Citizens years ago and then managed our family trust for many years. He was such a kind soul and we are thankful for his guidance and friendship. I was aware of his diagnosis and was sad to lose contact with him over the past two years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and we will always have Rudy's memory in our hearts.

Deb, my heart goes out to you and your family. Rudy was truly one of the best human beings I have ever met. He was funny, outgoing, talented and a true joy to be around. I was honored to have known him. I am so glad he met you and that the two of you shared a wonderful life and family together. Rudy was President of the Raleigh Jaycees when I joined and if not for him, I probably wouldn't have joined. He had a way of making you see his vision and want to be a part of something amazing. May God Bless you and your children as you grieve this tremendous loss.
Much Love,
Lisa

My deepest condolences to the Ogburn family. I knew Rudy through the NC Bar Association. He was a gentle and caring man who never let his professional success change his fundamental kindness and good nature. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Deborah, I worked with Rudy for around 13 years at Young Moore. He was smart, funny, intelligent and very witty. Marrying you was a great highlight of his life. I remember when your first child was born. Rudy always came to work dressed perfectly, no wrinkles, no spots of any kind on his clothes and a tie that matched perfectly. He came to work one morning soon after the first baby was born. Yvonne Abernathy and I were talking when he came in. He looked a bit unraveled that day. We noticed a spot on his shirt where the baby had spit up on him. We told him about it and I remember his face turning a bright red. He then proceeded to tell us about his night. To hear him tell how he had been up most of the night with the baby was hilarious and the fact that he didn´t know he had a spot on his shirt was like listening to a comedian. He had Yvonne and me laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes. Through the years I worked there, he told many stories of his life experiences with you and the children. You could hear the love, pride and excitement in him when he talked of his family. He was a sweet soul and I am glad I had the opportunity to know and work with Rudy.

Lifting you all up in prayer for peace and comfort. I was his client for the last 5 years. I remember the day he shared his diagnosis and every day after that I prayed for his health and healing.

Through his good and bad days he never lost sight of what we loved the most his beautiful family and the law. Rudy represented me through this difficult time with knowledge, patience and compassion. He was a true caring friend.

I am so very sorry for your loss, you are all on my mind and in my heart. God speed my friend
