Rufus Bozier Obituary

Published by Ideal Funeral Parlor - Florence on Jan. 31, 2011.
On Monday, January 31, 2011, God called Rufus "Bubba" Bozier home to rest in the wee hours of the morning. "Bubba", as he was affectionately called, was the oldest son of Willie Bozier, Sr. and Minnie Marie Stinney-Bozier. He was born on February 1, 1945 in Clarendon County, South Carolina. He attended the public schools in Clarendon County and later relocated to Philadelphia, PA in 1963. In 1965, he relocated to New York City. While residing in New York, he worked as a Fabric Cutter from 1967-1976. He then worked as a Printer and Book Binder for the City University of New York City (CUNY) from 1977-1992, until his health declined. He once again relocated, this time to Florence, SC in 2007. "Bubba" believed in God and he loved reading the Holy Bible. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a member of Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church and later became a member of Mount Zion A.M. E. Church in 2008 and attended Mount Zion as often as he could until his health prevented him. He always found great joy and comfort in listening to the Gospel Choir and all of Rev. Merritt B. Graves's sermons. "Bubba" took pride in being able to help others especially the homeless. His doors were always open to strangers. He was truly a loving and caring person who loved people. "Bubba" made many friends throughout his travels. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Norman Bozier, Willie Bozier, Jr. (killed in Vietnam), and Minnie Mae B. Tangara. As he entered the transition of another peaceful life, he leaves behind: one daughter, Shanzel Bozier of Bronx, NY; one sister, Irene L. (Argo) Hill of Florence, SC; one brother, Jacob (Dorothy) Bozier of Florence, SC; two aunts, Harristine Bozier and Christine Stinney; a brother-in-law, Modibo Tangara; seven nephews, John, Sr. (Pamela) Lawson, Michael Adams, Marvin (Rosa) Lawson, Duane (Veronica) Adams, Derrick Adams, Jacob J. Bozier, Jr. and Montrell James; three nieces, Michelle Hunter, Kellee (Gilbert) Gurley and Toshiba Bozier; special cousins, Ella McPhatter, John Benbow, Tommie Ragin, Bertha Henry and Thomas (Michelle) Henderson; adopted aunt, Hestell Ragin; adopted mother, Estelle Fouche'; adopted brother, Anderson Mungo; special friends, Diane P. West, Nell Harrell and Teddy Murray; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Rev. Merritt B. Graves, Rev. Martha A. Frazier, Dr. John Pittard, Dr. Abraham Rowson and McLeod Regional Medical Staff for rendering spiritual and medical healing to our loved one.
