Rulon Glen Hacking, son of the late Kenneth E. Hacking and the late Laurel Maud Small Hacking, passed away on January 10, 2025, in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Rulon was the sixth of eight children. They were raised on their parents' dairy farm in Sunnydell, Madison County, Idaho, and learned to enjoy working hard on the farm together.
Rulon attended Archer and Lyman Elementary schools, Madison Jr High, Madison High School, and Ricks College, graduating in 1969. Early on in his life, he demonstrated a wonderful artistic talent. He studied under local artist Marion Cheney, art teachers in all the schools he attended, and then a Russian artist by the name of Sergei Bongart established an art school near Rexburg, and Rulon studied under him. Mr. Bongart was very impressed with Rulon's work and had him become one of his art teachers at the school and eventually also in California.
Rulon served in the army during the Vietnam War in the early 70's.. After he got back, he continued with his artwork, and over the years, many of his paintings were displayed in galleries in Idaho, California, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, among others.
In the last several years, he has painted several murals. There are three very large murals with a western theme that can be viewed at Colter Lodge in Afton, Wyoming.
Rulon was preceded in death by his parents, older sisters Janet Hacking, Carolyn Hacking McMurtrey, and his younger sister Eileen Lentz passed away in Feb of 2025. He is survived by his older sister Margaret McLaughlin, older brother Kenneth L (Carole Jeanne), sister Rosalie (Tom) Leman, and younger brother James S "Chuck" Hacking.
