Lois Elaine Meldrum McGavin Cook passed from her mortal journey on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the age of 75.

She was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on April 14, 1950 to Lloyd Eugene Meldrum and Florence Iris Litchfield. She was the second of six children.

Her early years were spent living and going to school in Magrath, helping with chores, and playing with friends. She learned the value of hard work and service from a young age and carried those traits with her throughout the rest of her life.

After graduating from Magrath High School in 1968, she went to Ricks College and received her Associate Degree. She continued her education at Brigham Young University and received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and later received a teaching certificate from Idaho State University.

Lois married Kenneth (Ken) Brent McGavin in the Cardston Alberta temple on July 22, 1972. They lived in Provo, UT and Idaho Falls, ID during their marriage. Sadly, Ken passed away on February 6, 1979.

Lois later married William (Bill) George Cook on October 9, 1981 and moved to Rexburg. They became parents to Carol, Kathryn, and James.

Lois worked several jobs during her lifetime, including working at a store in Banff National Park during the summers of her college years. After college, she worked at a hardware store and a department store. She also taught life skills to adults with disabilities, and worked at two different banks, where she met a lot of people.

Lois has been a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and served in many callings, most notably as the Compassionate Service Leader for well over a decade.

Lois is most known for her kindness and compassion toward others, especially those who were suffering or experiencing difficulties. She made friends easily and loved serving others however she could. In her earlier years she enjoyed sewing. She also enjoyed canning and preserving food from the garden that she and Bill grew each year.

Lois spent four decades serving her daughter, Kathryn. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

Lois and Bill were married for 42 years before Bill passed away on June 17, 2024.

During the last year of her life, she lived at The Homestead in St. Anthony and was well cared for. She loved participating in the activities provided, making new friends, and appreciated all of the help and kindness she was shown by the staff there, both past and present.

Lois is preceded in death by both of her husbands, her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and two siblings.

She is survived in death by her children, Carol (Chris), Kathryn, and James, as well as her grandchildren, Megan, Kate, McKenzie, and Rachel, her brother, Blair (Peggy), and sisters, Eileen (Robert), and Sharon (Mark), and multiple nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral will be held in her honor at the Rexburg 1st Ward building at 314 E. 2nd N. in Rexburg, ID) on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 12 pm. A viewing will be held at 11 am in the same building.
