Jill Moss, daughter of Darrell Horman and Verla Pincock Moss, passed away February 10, 2026 at her home in Sugar City, Idaho. Born on November 24, 1953, at Madison Memorial Hospital in
Rexburg, Idaho, Jill spent the first six years of her life on the family farm 1-1/2 miles east of Sugar City, where she developed a great loved for animals. The family moved in to town the summer before Jill started first grade. Jill graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1972, as a valedictorian and Spori Scholar from Ricks College in 1974, and Summa Cum Laude from BYU with a BS degree in 1976, majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Science. Continued study for an additional semester earned Jill a degree in Special Education.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jill loved the Lord and served faithfully in many callings in the Primary, Young Women, Sunday School, Relief Society organizations, and as Music Chairperson and Ward Newsletter Editor. She served as a missionary in the Oslo Norway mission from 1977-1979.
Teaching was one of Jill's greatest loves. She taught in the Sugar Salem School District for 34 years - 33 years in first grade and one year in kindergarten. Known as "Miss Jill" by her students, she loved bumping in to them years after they were in her class. Jill received awards as teacher of the year from the school district, Chamber of Commerce, Local News 8, and Post Register. Active in the Sugar Salem Education Association, Jill served as President and Treasurer for many years. She enjoyed presenting at national Core Knowledge Conferences with her twin sister Joy. Following her retirement, she continued to help students by establishing a tutoring business.
Jill faced many challenges in her life, but always kept a smile on her face and had a positive outlook. Like her mother, she was not one to complain. Jill gave generously of her resources to educational organizations, supported nieces and nephews on their missions, and anonymously blessed the lives of many in the community.
Family was a significant part of Jill's life. She worked to maintain strong family ties by remembering every birthday and anniversary. Jill is survived by her siblings: Bill (Ann) Moss, Rexburg; Joy Ball, Sugar City; Anne Moss, Idaho Falls; sister-in-law Libby Moss, Boise; ten nieces and nephews and their spouses; and 49 grand nieces and nephews. Jill was preceded in death by her parents Darrell H. And Verla P. Moss; siblings: Neil Moss, Darlene P. Moss-Faretti, and Peggy Wiser; brothers-in-law Isa'ako Faretti, Gerald Ball, and Tom Wiser; and one grand-nephew.
