Rulon Heyborne
1926 ~ 2025
St. George, UT-Rulon "Rick" Heyborne passed away at home in
St. George, Utah on February 27, 2025. Rulon was born in
Cedar City, Utah on October 2nd, 1926, to Charles and Grace (née Stubbs) Heyborne. He was the 2nd of 7 children. His boyhood and early years were spent working on the farm, hunting, camping and fishing with friends and family. He joined the navy at age 17 and served on a ship in the South China Sea during World War II. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1951, becoming a Certified Engineer. Rulon worked for U. S. Steel for 10 years, where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Marsden, while sharing a carpool. They married in 1953 and had 3 children in the following years. Their first-born child, Michael, sadly died of complications shortly after birth. The family moved to Salt Lake City in 1963 when he took a position with Kennecott Copper, working primarily as a Capital Expenditure Planning and Execution Engineer, moving from plant, to division, and then to the corporate level. He retired in 1986 after 25 years with the company. The years in Salt Lake were fruitful, busy and happy. In the fall of 1989, Rulon and Marjorie moved to St. George Utah. They joined the Bloomington Country Club where Rulon spent many years golfing and socializing, serving as a board member for a time. He lost his beloved Marjorie in June of 2016. His love for her was boundless and eternal, and serves as a glowing example for those he left behind. In the fall of 2023, he moved in with his daughter Holly and her husband Pete. Over the next year and a half Holly cared for him with saint-like compassion and love as he started to decline. She has truly been a selfless angel. Pete was right by her side doing, without hesitation, whatever was needed to help.
Dad's creed was centered on family, honesty, integrity, kindness and honor. He lived that creed - he embodied it. And it wasn't just a creed, it was who he was, truly and naturally. His most important mission in life was assuring the well-being of his family. He worked tirelessly to create a loving haven where they felt cared for, protected, safe, and free to follow their own path and become their best selves. He had strong beliefs and opinions, while always being open to the ideas and beliefs of others. He was accepting, kind and encouraging to everyone he met. Any rare moment of weakness never passed without a heartfelt, genuine apology.
Dad's greatest love was spending time with his family and friends. He treasured being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and boating. Lake Powell was a favorite destination. He was an excellent cook, and passionately enjoyed planning and preparing special meals for family and friends.
Dad, we love you and miss you so deeply. Thank you for the love, wisdom, and strength you shared with all who knew you. Your life and the examples you set continue to inspire and guide us.
Rulon is survived by his daughter, Holly (Pete) Savage; son, Randy (Ali); grandchildren: Paul Ryan (Megan), Malory (Travis) Lord, Grace, Hannah, Jacob; great-grandchildren: Emma, Presley, Violet, Quinn, Cameron; and his brother Dee Heyborne.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace; his son Michael; his wife Marjorie; his brothers: Lester and Ray; and his sisters: Dorothy, Sharon Bulloch, and Elayne Primer.
The family would like to thank Michelle and Victoria, from Zion's Way Hospice, and give a special thank you to Rachelle Sanchez, for the love and care they gave to our dad.
