Russel Edward Hayter

Russel Edward Hayter of Gualala, California, died at his home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer, with his family and close friends by his side.
Raised in Fort Bragg, California by his grandparents, Russel learned early on the value of hard work and determination. As a young man he assisted his grandfather who fished commercially and later worked in the lumber industry, emergency medical services, public water services, cemetery services and ended his employment as a successful business owner in on-site wastewater inspections and repairs.
An avid metal detectorist, Russel collected coins, arrowheads, bottles and anything old, cool or unique. His knowledge of antiquities was uncanny.
Russel loved sportfishing and the natural world. He loved his family and did what was necessary to support and protect them. He loved shooting billiards and sharing his skills and knowledge with those people he thought deserved them.
Russ marched to his own drummer and was loved, or hated, by those he knew.
He is survived by his wife Lisa Hayter, of 45 years. His children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
