Russell Bennett, age 96 passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Roswell, New Mexico.
Russ was born in Gloversville, NY to William and Edna Haynes Bennett and grew up in the Mohawk Valley near the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. At the age of 17, Russ joined the navy and through his service was able to see many interesting places in the South Pacific. He talked of them often over the years.
Back at home, Russ turned his attention to becoming the skilled carpenter and inventor he would showcase throughout the rest of his life. Friends and family often relied on him to help build or fix something and it was always a joy to see the creative things he would come up with. Once he even built a snowmobile! Amazingly, Russ lived an independent, joyful life up until his Lord asked him to join him in heaven. He enjoyed traveling and took many road trips as well as an Alaskan Cruise on his 90th birthday. He was a private pilot and looked for any excuse to get up into the air.
He was a good friend, a devoted Christian and a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Russ was preceded in death by Mary his wife of over 50 years and their daughter Jody, as well as his later in life love Alice. He also had two brothers, Doug and William who were waiting for him in heaven.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Holliday, son, Ed Bennett, daughter Nancy Roberts, his grandchildren Jason Dunne, Cristy Miller, Michael Burdge, Andrew Bennett and Malorie DeGelormo as well as 2 great granddaughters Tuscany and Kyra and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be missed.
