Russell P. Bishop Jr.

Russell P. Bishop, Jr., of Hatchville and formerly of Taunton, passed away on March 1st, 2026. He was 90 years old.

Russ proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. Following his discharge, he began his civilian career with the Taunton Water Dept. His commitment to service continued when he joined the 102 FIW at Otis ANGB, MA. There he achieved the rank of MSGT and served as the supervisor of the Aircraft Inspection Section receiving many awards over his career. Upon retiring from the military, he found joy as a school bus driver, transporting sports teams to games across the state.

He was an usher and greeter at St Elizabeth Seton Church and also a member of the Cancer Support Group at the church. He was heavily involved in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, survivor reception for several years.

He was a caring and dedicated father and grandfather, always ready to give a helping hand. While being a steady presence and a source of wisdom, he was also a man of simple pleasures and quiet routines. He was an avid churchgoer who valued his faith and the community it brought him. He also enjoyed his daily trips to Dunkin, reading the newspaper, traveling and spending quality time with those he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bishop who he was married to for over 44 years. He is survived by his loving daughters, Daughter: Jo-Ann (Daniel) Smead of Dartmouth - grandchildren: Kevin Smead, Wallagrass ME; Jeffrey (Julie) Smead of Medford, MA and Jonathan Smead of Dartmouth. Daughter: Anne (Jay) Monteiro, N Falmouth - grandchildren: Ben Monteiro, Attleboro, MA; Sarah Monteiro, Pocasset, MA. He is also survived by daughers Kathy Abreu and Jennifer Taul. And he leaves behind his sister Beverly Darwin and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Russell and Mildred Bishop, his brother Robert Bishop, and his daughter Karen Coughlin.

A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, March 12th at 12:45 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
