Russell Robert Bonis

Bonis, Russell, R. passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 20, 2023, at the age of 76 years. Russ was a United States Marine, serving two tours in Vietnam after his initial deployment. After an honorable discharge, he earned a degree in software programming and worked for Lucent Technologies. Following retirement, he moved back to Milwaukee to care for his parents. All who knew Russ were familiar with his love of gardening and benefited from his never-ending supply of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and zucchini. His was the brightest yard on the block, blooming with flowers of every color. Russ also enjoyed studying and pondering the potential of the universe. Russ's nephews and nieces loved his humor, stories, and fun gifts. He always had a story to tell! He was a loyal follower of the Milwaukee Braves and Milwaukee Brewers; and was able to recall any and all statistics related to anything baseball!
Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and June Bonis. He was the loving sibling of Beverly Anderson (David), Michael Bonis (Susan), and Tony Bonis (Cindy), as well as cherished uncle to Lori Keener (Michael), Jon Anderson, Joe Bonis, Josh Bonis (Brianne), Megan Bonis (Dan), Ben Bonis (Jamie), and Chad Bonis (Caitlin), and great-uncle of Grayson Keener, Jonathan and David Anderson, Jonathon Bonis, Ollie and Gus Bonis, and Layla and Connor Bonis. A private family gathering will be planned for late spring.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Clement J. Zablocki VA, where Russ always felt at home and among friends. He particularly enjoyed connecting with Vietnam vets, who were able to talk about shared experiences during those trying years.
