Russell Howard Boucher, 68, of Deptford, passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2024. He is survived by his wife Loretta, children Eric (Olivia) Boucher, Danielle (Daniel) Certa, and Stephen (Kristie) Wright; grandchildren Juliana, Christian, Charlie, Leo, and Avery; brother Thomas (Peggy) Boucher, and nephew Thomas Boucher. He was predeceased by his father Ralph, his mother Mary, and brothers Ralph and Mark.
Russ recently retired in November of 2023 after a three-decade career with Penn Medicine's Information Services. In the early days of his career, Russ used to bring home MRI images of brains for Danielle to peruse.
Russ was a proud father and grandfather. He was particularly proud of his son Eric's military service as a Marine and civil service as a police officer. He never missed a grandchild's birthday and was notorious for buying out their entire Amazon wish lists, forcing their parents to scramble for more holiday gift ideas. Russ enjoyed detailing his car, going to the racetrack, playing cards, stockpiling cigarettes, sugar, and coffee pods, voicing his reluctance in nearly every situation, making spreadsheets, and spoiling his cat with treats. Russ was known for his frequent strolls through Walmart and Wawa, where he purchased coffee to bring to his wife every Saturday morning. He never missed a Saturday, even though he knew that his wife's dementia would mean she wouldn't remember his visit.
We will miss Russ's quiet, grumpy presence, his dry and irreverent sense of humor, his goofy laugh, and his love for his family.
To honor Russ's wishes, Services will be Private.
Arrangements by BOUCHER FUNERAL HOME, Deptford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project by accessing https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
While we wish Russ had been given more time to enjoy his retirement, we know he is now resting in peace.

Russ and I grew up together at HUP. One of my best buds. Love you Russ. My sincere condolences to the Boucher Family

Russ was part of the glue that held the Department of Radiology together. He was always present, engaged and willing to help all in need. He truly cared about the Department.

Three of my favorite memories of Russ:

1. I loved when he would test the voice recognition system for new trainees. He would put on his radiology voice and pretend to dictate a knee MRI. He had heard us do this so many times that he was able to perfectly recite an abnormal report (including a tear of the undersurface of the posterior horn of the medical meniscus and the complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligatment!).

2. After my mother passed away, Russ accompanied me with a uhaul to and from Baltimore to help move my childhood possessions. He provided great company during a low point for me.

3. He and I would usually bet a cup of coffee on the Super Bowl. Who won the bet was not important. The ritual gave us a chance to take a break together to share a drink outside of the reading rooms.

I met Russ in the early 90's when I began my residency at Penn. From the first day, through the next 30+ years, Russ was always so helpful. I certainly appreciated Russ for his expertise and above and beyond efforts professionally, but my fondest memories are of experiencing his joy when he spoke of his family. The outpouring of sadness, respect and affection on the Penn email is a testament to the kind of person Russ was and how many lives he touched. He will be dearly missed. My condolences to his family.

I just happen to run into someone who worked with Russ at HUP. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know he loved his family and that´s all he ever talked about.

I met Russ in 2009, and he was always willing to help me with questions or issues I encountered. He would do his rounds around the radiology departments and check on everyone. We always had the best chats and Russ had the best sense of humor. I have so many happy memories working with him. My condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Tracy G. Jenkins, I met Russ in 2007, and I what I can say about him is that he did his job with precision. Call or email him, and he would get the job done. I will certainly miss him. May his family and friends be comforted in knowing that he is in a much better place. St: Matthew 5:4

I met Russ my first day over at HUP, he was smart and helpful, but what I remember most was that he made me laugh on an otherwise nerve-wracking day (nothing was working :)...My condolences to his family and loved ones.

He was my go-to IT guy at Penn for many years! He was great. An interesting personality, but always incredibly helpful. I would have come to the funeral, but I retired from Penn two months ago and moved out of the country. I will miss him very much!

I have know Russ at Penn for 30 + years. He was always willing to pitch in to do anything. More importantly, he cared about the people around him. I vividly recall being glued to the TV in the founders MRI patient waiting room, next to Russ, watching the news of 9/1/2001 unfold. One of many world and local event we shared together. He felt like family to me. My condolences to his family

I was saddened in November when Russ sat in the Cardiothoracic Imaging Office and shared that he was reluctantly retiring after a storied career with Penn Radiology IS. I knew he would be missed by many, and the testimonials seen on Penn email today are living proof. I was sometimes afraid to call him for help, fearing that Russ would "bark" at me, but that was part of his charm and he always came through! May his family and cat know that he was loved much, and may you find peace through shared memories. Allison O'Callaghan

Just unbelievable. So sad and shocking to hear this. Russ was just like family. I've known him for over 30 years. He was always so helpful and kind. He and I would just go way back on the past years telling stories, having laughs, and I mean the way we use to remember this person, that person, how and what they did, how we miss them. Things were so different back when we started out. Russ, you meant so much to so many. May you rest in peace.

Russ was my guy. I'm based at Pennsylvania Hospital and I could always count on Russ to always jump in and help me navigate stuff in RIS. When I finally met him in person he was everything I expected. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Paradise Russ. You will be missed
