Russell J. Boyd

Russell J. Boyd, age 93, of Guys Mills, passed away Monday afternoon December 15, 2025, in his residence.

Russell was born in Guys Mills on March 29, 1932, a son of Howard and Florence (Shaffer) Boyd.

On July 20, 1957, Russell married the former Virginia Miller, she survives.

He was a 1950 graduate of Randolph High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corp. from 1951-1954 during the Korean War.

Russell was the owner/operator of Boyd’s Store in Guys Mills, retiring after 35 years. He was previously employed at Rex Carpenter Packing Co. and drove school bus for 35 years.

He was a longtime member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills and was actively involved in the community as a member of the Randolph VFD, a former Township Auditor, and a member of Elks Lodge #219. He also held memberships in the American Legion Post in Townville, the Titusville VFW, and the NRA. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, reading, puzzles, and playing horseshoes. Russ enjoyed feeding the birds every day.

In addition to his wife of 68 years; he is survived by two daughters, Julie Boyd of Grove City, Janet Gilson and her husband Dewayne of Punxsutawney; a son Daniel Boyd and his wife Elle of Hackettstown, NJ; a sister, Jean Ramsey of Surprise, AZ; a brother, David Boyd and his wife Marilyn of Meadville; four grandchildren, Annette Roberts and her husband Bruce, Alicia Gilson, Bryan Boyd, and Erin Erwin and her husband Dr. Ryan Erwin; two great grandchildren, Luke Roberts, Nathan Roberts; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Donald Boyd, John (Jack) Boyd, Dale Boyd, two sisters, Eloise Kosanovic, Carolyn Miller.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM, in United Evangelical Free Church, 11534 PA-198, Guys Mills. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM in the church with Bill Cox, pastor of the church officiating. Meadville VFW Pot #2006 will render Military Honors at the conclusion of the service. Burial will be private in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills. Arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC. 581 CHESTNUT ST. MEADVILLE.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the United Evangelical Free Church, 11534 PA-198, Guys Mills, PA 16327.
