Mr. Russell L. Flatters, age 80, of Tennga, GA, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at his home.
Russell was born in Muncie, Indiana and was raised in Tennessee and Georgia by a single mother and his sisters. He married his loving wife, Babara, in 1964. Russell was a long-time member and deacon at Liberty Baptist Church in Tennga, GA. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was a hardworking and dependable man who worked several years as a mechanic building nuclear and hydro power plants. Russell also worked for 36 years at Better Backers before retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Leroy Flatters whom died in World War II with his last words being to Russell's mother telling her to "Raise him to be a better man than him"; his mother, Lena Flatters; daughter, Angela Denise Flatters; sisters, Edna M. Baxter and Donna May Mantooth; brothers-in-law, Warner Baxter and Noble Mantooth; sisters-in-law, Syble Ruth Jones (Robert); nephews, Keith Mantooth and Michael Baxter.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara H. Flatters; son, David Flatters (Tina); grandchildren, Kenneth Flatters, Lena Flatters-Smith (Jarrett), and Jason Scissom; sister, Janie Wilson (Ray); several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family, friends, and medical staff that took such good care of Russell.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Russell L. Flatters will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Liberty Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
