Russell Earl Harbold, age 62, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 27, 2025, at his residence in Underwood, Indiana, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories woven into the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. Born on September 6, 1963, in Scottsburg, he was a man whose presence was as vibrant as the gardens he tended to with care.
Known for his generous spirit, Russell never met a stranger. He had an innate ability to connect with people, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His outspoken personality drew many towards him, fostering friendships that spanned across decades. A hard worker, Russell made his mark in the construction industry, where he brought diligence and dedication to every project, shaping not only structures but the lives of those around him.
Outside of work, Russell found solace in the simple beauty of gardening, nurturing plants with a green thumb that seemed to bring life to everything he touched. He cherished the great outdoors, where one could often find him fishing, relishing in nature’s tranquillity. These hobbies were more than mere pastimes; they spoke to his love for life and the joy he found in the world around him.
He is survived by his brothers, Roger Harbold and his wife Laurie of Underwood, Indiana, and Jimmy Harbold and his wife Virginia of Underwood, Indiana. His sisters, Linda Williams of Florida, Velda McMinoway of Hardinsburg, Indiana, Ella Wray of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Billie Clements and her husband Scott of Underwood, Indiana, carry forward his spirit of generosity and love. His legacy also lives on through 14 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews, each of whom were touched by his warmth and kindness.
Russell’s family mourns the loss of those who preceded him in death: his father, John Harbold, and his mother, Edna McIntosh Harbold, along with brothers Johnny Harbold, Larry Harbold, Richard Harbold, Donald Harbold, and Jack Harbold. Their absence is felt deeply, but their memories will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew them.
A visitation to honor Russell will be held on October 9, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 7:00 PM at the Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. This gathering will serve as a testament to a life well-lived and the love that continues to flourish in the stories shared among family and friends. He will be laid to rest at Sodom Cemetery.
