It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell Mendoza, affectionately known as Russ, who departed this life peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on Saturday, July 1, 1944, in St. Louis, to the late Paul Mendoza and Lillian (Rolland) Brumer.
Russ proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, upholding the values of courage and commitment. After his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, serving the Afton area for 34 years. His dedication to his work and community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Russ was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre. He cherished the great outdoors, finding peace and happiness in activities such as hunting, fishing, and cutting wood, sharing many beautiful memories in nature's embrace. He held a special place in his heart for all animals, especially his late fur babies, Sundance and Bogart. Above all, Russ treasured the time spent with his family. He delighted in being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Francis Mendoza; daughter, Belinda Mendoza; sisters, Pauline Gregorczyk and Alice Dexter; brothers, Lynard and John Mendoza.
Russ is survived by his loving son Larry Willett and wife Ruth; grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Patterson, Brandi (TJ) Ryan, Courtney (Joe) Shy, Mike Willett, Matt (Stephanie) Willett and Crystal (Ryan) Walker; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Riley and Juanita Kardell; brothers, Richard (Lorraine) Brumer and David (Sharon) Brumer along with several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 8:00 AM until service time of 9:30 AM with Chaplain Justin Ogden officiating. Burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at 12:00 PM.
