Russell L. Sigsworth, 97, of North Ridgeville, passed away at his residence on Monday February 13, 2023. He was born April 27, 1925 in North Ridgeville and was a life-long resident. He graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1943. Russell was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps and served from 1943 to 1946. During WWII he was a B-25 pilot and flew 26 missions in the Pacific Theatre of the war. He worked as a Supervisor at the Ford Motor Company in Brook Park for 28 years and retired in 1980. He also previously worked at Couchuthe Machine Shop in Elyria and as a Brakeman at the North Central Railroad in Elyria. Russell was an active member for many years of Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville and was still able to attend services, a Life Member of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville, an active member for many years of the North Ridgeville Historical Society, and a former member of the Lions Club of North Ridgeville. After retiring, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels at the North Ridgeville Senior Center. Russell enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, restoring and collecting antique tractors, and studying local history. He was very involved in the restoration and maintenance of the historic one-room school house on Jaycox Road in North Ridgeville. Russell L. Sigsworth is survived by: his daughter, Nancy Ketterer (Billy Mahl) of Elyria; two sons, Bill Sigsworth (Carla) of Elyria and David Sigsworth of North Ridgeville (Jessica Escobar of Lorain); a son-in-law, David Guilkey of North Ridgeville; five grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and his brother, Thomas Sigsworth (Margie) of Oberlin. He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Mary Louise (nee Copeland) in 1989; his second wife, Jane (nee Drummond) in 2020; his daughter, Judy Guilkey in 2015; his parents, John H. and Mable A. (nee Worcester) Sigsworth; and his brother, John Sigsworth. The family will receive friends on Thursday February 16, 2023 from 6 to 8pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. The Funeral Service will be Friday February 17, 2023 at 12 Noon at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Road, North Ridgeville. Dr. Tom Joyce, Pastor, will officiate the service. The burial will be at Fields Cemetery in North Ridgeville, where members from the honor guard of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville will conduct full military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to Fields United Methodist Church.
