Russell Drewes Tuuk, age 82, of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Heartwood Lodge. He was born on May 15, 1943, in Muskegon, Michigan, to the late Drewes and Grace (Wagenmaker) Tuuk.
Russ married Joan Dempsey on May 21, 1965, in Grand Haven. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2021, after 55 years of marriage.
Russ graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School and then worked as a sheet metal journeyman at Bastian Blessing for several years before they closed. In 1987, he joined Greg Lucky and together, they founded and operated The City Farmer in Grand Haven, from which he retired from in 2015.
Russ was a former member of First Reformed Church where he served as Deacon for many years. He then attended All Shores Wesleyan Church in Spring Lake for several years and finished his work with the Lord at Summit Church in West Olive. He served on the City of Grand Haven Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and was an original board member of the "Hymn Sing" which later became "Worship on the Waterfront."
Russ was a faithful attendee of Grand Haven Buccaneer sporting events, an avid Michigan State and NASCAR fan, and enjoyed camping with his family and grandchildren. His favorite all-time hobby was working at the family's apple orchard in Fremont with his close cousin, Doug.
Russ will be forever remembered and missed by his three children: Kimberly (Al) Plantenga, Kevin (Lisa) Tuuk, and Craig (Jodi) Tuuk all of Grand Haven; six loved grandchildren: Brandon (Lydia), Abby, Brandon, Kylie, Nathan, and Emily; his sister, Johanna Schotty; brother, Carl (Linda) Tuuk; cousin, Doug Kooistra; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life for Russ will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Summit Church, with Pastor Jasper Swaney officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.
