I just heard about Rusty's passing. His name always brings back fond memories from when he looked out for me at USCG HQ in the 1973-74 timeframe. I was an OCS grad and he was a new CWO2 as I remember. We worked side by side in the Enlisted Recruiting Branch (G-PMR) and I made many mistakes that he noticed and corrected before they could be discovered. He was a superb administrator and without his help my career would have ended early. He was kind, thoughtful, very smart and a treasure for our Coast Guard. RIP my friend.

CWO3 (Ret) Dan Lubecki
January 28, 2025
On October 16, 1969, Chief Arianas was my recruiter in San Antonio, Texas. I later served with him in Elizabeth City, NC. One funny thing happened on the day I was sworn in. After the swearing in, Rusty went through the process of taking my fingerprints. He told me to make sure I didn´t get any fingerprint ink on his whites. So, after printing my left hand, I put that hand behind my back. While Rusty was printing the other hand, his boss, a CWO walked behind us and he felt something rub his back. It was my inky fingers. I left a few black streaks on his white dress shirt. At least I didn´t get any ink on Rusty´s shirt. I ended up as the honor graduate of my company and retired after 24 years as a CWO3. Rusty will be missed.
