Ruth E. Alvey

1933 - 2026

Ruth was born on April 10, 1933, to Martin S. and Eva (Smith) Alvey in Paoli, Indiana. She graduated from Whiteland High School in 1951, and one week later she started working at Indiana Bell Telephone Company (now AT&T), making $26 per week. She worked for Indiana Bell in the Accounting and Plant departments until she retired on December 30, 1991.

Ruth was active in Telephone Pioneers, church, and community activities. She was a member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church. She was a devoted volunteer for many years, on a path for her lifetime of helping others. Ruth especially enjoyed "her kids." She never had any children of her own, but all of her many nieces and nephews (great, great-great and great-great-great) meant so much to her.

Ruth was an unwavering supporter of all her family. She always made time to go to her "kids" music programs, birthday parties; and always came up with the best kids' activities for get togethers. She never forgot to send cards for special occasions for her friends and family. She traveled internationally and was never afraid of a new adventure.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Mary (Pitzer) Rickels and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight of her siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, 481 W. Main St. Greenwood, Indiana 46142. A visitation will also be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 10am until the time of her funeral service at 11am, also at the funeral home. Ruth will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following her funeral service.
