Ruth Little Obituary
Ruth Ann Little, age 77, passed away peacefully, July 11, 2025, at her residence in Atlanta, GA, after a long illness. She was born Ruth Ann Capes on November 11, 1947 in Columbus, OH, to George L. and Helen L. Capes. She grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and was confirmed in her Christian faith at Bethany United Church of Christ, Cuyahoga Falls. She graduated with honors from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1965. She earned a BA in Music Education from Muskingum College, New Concord, OH, and taught in the Akron Public Schools for one year before attending Kent State University, Kent, OH. While at Kent she met and fell in love with a fellow student, french hornist Charles Little, whom she married in 1971. She graduated from Kent State with a master's degree in violin performance.
She joined the second violin section of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 1973 and had a distinguished career with the orchestra that lasted for 50 seasons. She was instrumental in organizing ASO Christmas outreach concerts to senior homes in the Atlanta area. Additionally, she taught violin privately for many years in the greater Atlanta area.
Ruth Ann was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta since 1987, where she was a member of the adult choir and the church orchestra.
Ruth Ann is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Charles Little; daughter, Morgan Elizabeth Little; and daughter-in-law, Julia Little Finarovsky; brother, Robert Capes (Lyn) of Silver Lake, OH; and four nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM. The church's address is 1328 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309. A reception will be held afterward.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ruth Ann Little to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra online at aso.org/donate-today or by calling 404-733-4800, or special gifts can be made in Ruth Ann's memory to the Music Ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.
